Lynn Cooper shared this recipe. She used it for her cookie business. It had been passed down in her family for years. (We can thank our own MaryG for sharing this.)
Dough
1 Cup Crisco
2 Cups Sugar
2 Eggs
1 Cup Buttermilk
1-2 tsp. Vanilla
6 Cups Flour (all-purpose)
½ tsp. salt
6 tsp. Baking Powder
1 tsp. Baking Soda
Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. They will puff up--only let them get a little brown on the edges, not on the top (too dry then.)
This recipe does not need to be refrigerated beforehand (baking powder will make it rise.)
Sugar Cookie Frosting
4 Cups Confectioner’s Sugar
½ Cup Crisco
5 Tbs. Milk
1 ½ tsp. vanilla
If the frosting gets too thick to spread, spoon small amounts of additional milk until proper consistency. Can be refrigerated for several days.

Oh my word. These are hands-down the best sugar cookies in the universe. Thank you for letting us eat way too many of these while we were in TX. YUM!
