This is our favorite recipe we've found for homemade pizza. It's a hit at our house!
1 C. warm water
2 tsp sugar, divided
2 tsp active dry yeast
2 ½ C flour
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt
Cornmeal
Pizza toppings (one combo we like is: BBQ sauce, cheese, cooked chicken strips, cilantro & red onions)
Preheat oven to 425*. If you have a pizza stone, let it preheat in the oven. Otherwise, set a 12” circular pan aside.
In a small bowl, combine warm water, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Set aside for 5 minutes.
In a large bowl, mix flour, olive oil, salt, and the other tsp of sugar. Add yeast mixture to it. Mix/knead until a ball of dough begins to form. Add extra flour if needed to make a soft dough that doesn’t stick to the sides of the bowl. Make a smooth ball out of it and set it in a clean bowl to rise for about 10 minutes.
While your dough is rising, get your toppings ready. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into roughly a circle. Dust your pizza pan or stone with cornmeal. Transfer the dough to the pizza pan or stone and then add toppings. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted.
